Moses continues to meet with God at the burning bush today and has some questions for God.
Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.
As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.
Prayer of Approach
Lord, I come before you with a humble heart, seeking to enter into your holy presence. I acknowledge your greatness, your majesty, and your love for me. Cleanse me from any sin or distraction that would hinder my communion with you. Open my heart and mind to be aware of your nearness. Holy Spirit, guide me and fill me with your peace. Help me to focus solely on you, laying aside my worries and burdens. I long to feel your presence, to hear your voice, and to rest in your embrace. Thank you, Lord, for welcoming me into your presence. May I be still and know that you are God.
I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in John 8…
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12
As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.
Then the Lord said, “I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters. I know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land, a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. And now, behold, the cry of the people of Israel has come to me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them. Come, I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.” But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” He said, “But I will be with you, and this shall be the sign for you, that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.”
Exodus 3:7-12
As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”
Our God is a God who sees our afflictions and hears our cries. Amid our pain and suffering it may not seem like he does, but this story reminds us that he does. It also points us to the truth that he has a calling for each and every one of us and sometimes that makes us ask the question, “Who am I that I should…?” God’s answer to that question is always the promise of his presence and his power going with us. He can be trusted to equip us when he calls us.
Lord, I ask that you reveal to me the calling of my life. Show me that you are the God who hears my cries in the midst of my afflictions. Remind me that you go with me even when I have questions about what you are doing.
Heavenly Father, we come before you, seeking revival for our nation. Restore our hearts, turning us back to your ways. Pour out your Spirit across America, igniting faith, hope, and love in every corner. Heal our divisions, renew our minds, and guide our leaders with wisdom and humility. May your truth and grace sweep through this land, transforming lives and drawing us closer to You.
As I read the passage for the final time, I listen for how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?
Then the Lord said, “I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters. I know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land, a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. Yielding Prayer
Lord, remind me who you are today and what you have called me to. In obedience, I take the direction you have for my life and I follow it wherever it will lead me. Fill me with your Spirit and send me out for your glory alone.
Yielding Promise
And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Exodus 14…
And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”
Exodus 14:13-14
Closing Prayer
Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
