Personal Worship

We see our question from God for this week which is, “Where are you?”.

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

Lord, your Word promises that you give more grace. I ask for more grace today.  Let my broken heart receive more grace for my sins. In a world full of comparison let my doubtful heart experience more grace. Let my fearful heart receive more grace and fill me with your strength. Let me see your face today. Speak to me now as I listen for what you have for me.

Rejoice and Reflect

I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 114…

When the Israelites escaped from Egypt—
when the family of Jacob left that foreign land—the land of Judah became God’s sanctuary,
    and Israel became his kingdom.
The Red Sea saw them coming and hurried out of their way!
The water of the Jordan River turned away.
The mountains skipped like rams,
    the hills like lambs!
What’s wrong, Red Sea, that made you hurry out of their way?
What happened, Jordan River, that you turned away?
Why, mountains, did you skip like rams?
    Why, hills, like lambs?
Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord,
at the presence of the God of Jacob.
He turned the rock into a pool of water;
yes, a spring of water flowed from solid rock.

     Psalm 114

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.” He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.” Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

       Genesis 3:8-13

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

After Adam and Eve disobey God their eyes are opened and shame enters into their lives. They see that they are naked and instantly cover-up. God enters at this point just like he would have normally. He is a relational God he desires to be with his people. He asks the question “Where are you?” to Adam and Eve. Not because he doesn’t know what has taken place, but to show them what they have done. Adam totally blame shifts and Eve admits that she was deceived and disobeyed God.

Ask

Lord, open my eyes to who you are and who I am in your sight. Let me not be deceived by temptation but show me what obedience looks like.

  1. Why does God ask questions?
  2. Enter into the story. What do you think is going through Adam and Eve’s minds during this?
  3. What does it look like for me to walk with God?
  4. What is God showing me from this passage?

Our Jesus, we thank you for the gifts you have given each of us in the church. Lead each of us at Rio into the place of service you created us for, for your glory! As I come before you in prayer, would you identify a gift I am not using, or bring to mind a need you would have me fulfill…

Yield

As I read the passage for the final time, I listen for how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Yielding Prayer

Lord, in a broken and sinful world, show me who you are. Let me see the questions you have for Adam and Eve and let me see that they are for me too. Open my eyes to where I am hiding from you. Fill me with your Spirit and let me see you as God today.

Yielding Promise

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in 2 Corinthians 5…

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

       2 Corinthians 5:21

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
