Friday Night
Prayer

As this day comes to a close, I quiet the noise of my thoughts and my efforts, and seek you in the stillness.

Reflect

Refrain for the Evening

He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord.
      Psalm 112:7

Am I going into this evening carrying anxiety or worry in my heart? Lord, I open my hands now and give you all of the things that have me anxious. Having laid my burdens at your feet, I receive the peace that comes from trusting you with them. You promise that you do not forsake those who seek you. (Psalm 9:10)

Refrain for the Evening

He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord.
      Psalm 112:7

Am I going into this evening fearful over something in my life?  I take a deep breath now and consciously choose to seek you in this moment, knowing your promise to answer and deliver me from all my fears. (Psalm 34:4)

Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
      Proverbs 30:5

Rejoice

As I go to sleep, my Father, I praise you for sustaining me this day, and thank you for your blessings in it. Show me now where you have been answering prayers or how you were at work in my life today.

Evening Scripture

Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. The LORD works righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed. He made known his ways to Moses, his acts to the people of Israel. The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever. He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. As a father shows compassion to his children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him.
      Psalm 103:1-13

Repent

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment.
       Psalm 51:1-4

Lord in heaven, never let me grow complacent in coming to you for forgiveness! Keep my heart sensitive to things that would come between us. Remind me now of the ways that I have sinned against you today so that I can come and confess them to you.

Thank you Lord, that when you wash me, I shall be whiter than snow (Psalm 51:7). I trust now that I am forgiven.

Rest

Refrain for the Evening

He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord.
      Psalm 112:7

Closing Prayer

In peace I now lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety. (Psalm 4:8) Grant rest tonight, I pray. And grant that tomorrow I would again seek your Kingdom and your glory in all the earth. Amen.
