Prepare for Worship (weekend of September 10)

Hey Church!

You may be familiar with the names Keith and Kristyn Getty, the modern-day hymn writers who wrote the massive hit “In Christ Alone,” which has now been sung by tens of millions of people in churches across the world for the better part of the last decade. The position they occupy in the worship-songwriting space is unique from their more radio-friendly CCM and arena-anthem counterparts. Their primary goal is to write songs that prioritize congregational singing and the exposition of profound gospel truths through lyrics that are rich in theology. The result of their work is a catalog of songs that resemble the spirit of the old, familiar hymns that many of us grew up singing in church.

“In Christ Alone” is a timeless song that I imagine will be printed in future hymnals with the likes of “There Is A Fountain” and “A Mighty Fortress.” Another Getty song that I think should make the cut in that new hymnal is “My Worth Is Not In What I Own (At The Cross).” I have been looking forward to introducing that one to you all for a while now, so I look forward to this Sunday when we will finally get to learn it together!

If you’re looking for some new worship music, I highly recommend you check out Keith and Kristyn Getty. One of my favorite artists, Shane & Shane, has covered a number of their songs, so I’m partial to using their arrangements in church. Take a listen to their rendition of the Getty’s “Christ Our Hope In Life and Death,” “He Will Hold Me Fast,” “The Lord Is My Salvation,” and “Behold the Lamb.”

A YouTube video and lyrics for this Sunday’s new song, My Worth Is Not In What I Own (At The Cross), are copied below!

Amen!

My Worth Is Not In What I Own (At The Cross)

Verse 1
My worth is not in what I own
Not in the strength of flesh and bone
But in the costly wounds of love at the cross

Verse 2
My worth is not in skill or name
In win or lose in pride or shame
But in the blood of Christ that flowed at the cross

Chorus
I rejoice in my Redeemer
Greatest treasure Wellspring of my soul
I will trust in Him no other
My soul is satisfied in Him alone

Verse 3
As summer flowers we fade and die
Fame youth and beauty hurry by
But life eternal calls to us at the cross

Verse 4
I will not boast in wealth or might
Or human wisdom’s fleeting light
But I will boast in knowing Christ at the cross

Verse 5
Two wonders here that I confess
My worth and my unworthiness
My value fixed my ransom paid at the cross
