Psalm 33:12
As we approach July 4th and the 250th anniversary of our nation, we want to take time not only to give thanks, but also to pray. Our ultimate hope is not in any nation, leader, or government, but in Jesus Christ and His kingdom. And yet, Scripture calls us to pray for the place where God has planted us and for those in authority over us.
Below, you will find a few ways we can pray together.
Philippians 3:20
01. Pray with gratitude
Thank God for the freedoms we enjoy, especially the freedom to worship, gather, preach the gospel, and live out our faith openly.
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above…” — James 1:17
02. Pray for humility and repentance
Ask the Lord to humble us as a nation, to expose sin, heal what is broken, and lead people to repentance and faith in Christ.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart… and lead me in the way everlasting.” — Psalm 139:23–24
03. Pray for our leaders
Pray for wisdom, integrity, justice, and courage for those in authority at the national, state, and local levels.
“I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made… for kings and all who are in high positions…” — 1 Timothy 2:1–2
04. Pray for unity and peace
Ask God to help us love our neighbors well, pursue peace, reject bitterness and division, and reflect the grace and truth of Jesus.
“So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding.” — Romans 14:19
05. Pray for the church in America.
Pray that the church would be faithful, courageous, compassionate, and clear in proclaiming the hope of the gospel.
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” — Matthew 5:14
06. Pray for gospel renewal.
Ask the Lord to awaken hearts, revive His people, and draw many to Himself in our city, our nation, and the world.
“Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?” — Psalm 85:6
May we celebrate with gratitude, pray with humility, and live with hope knowing that Jesus is King over every nation, including ours.
